I saw him one night at the meadowlands when the Gretsch just crapped out. He even said, my guitar just died...I think the strat of the late 70's may have been a backup guitar, while the Tele was getting re-tuned. It would sit on a stand just in front of Max

I distinctly remember the sunburst Tele as his second or back up guitar, but I have seen old video of Springsteen from the late 70's playing what I believe was a white Stratocaster. Very odd to see him with a Strat and he definately sounded different than his usual Tele. Old pictures of Bruce with Steelmill show him with a Les Paul Gold top with P-90 pick ups. But he has really stayed true to the Tele overall. Back in the old E-Street Band days he also played through two Tweed Bassman. Now I think (not sure) that he uses a Mesa Boogie head (kept offstage) and two Marshall cabs. For a big time rock star/icon he apparently keeps it pretty simple.

Your correct on all that it is true for someone who has all the money to afford whatever equipment he wants his stuff is really simple, he guitars, amps, straps, harmonicas, almost everything including strings and others is simple yet affective. I remember him sayin in an interview he was amazed at the guy who mixed his Magic cd because he had all the "toys" for a guitar player and bruce joked by saying i still use a basic amp, a delay pedal, and a telecaster thats it. i thought that was funny

I recall in an interview about his live rig, Springsteen said he has a board on the floor with three buttons...loud, louder, and super loud. 8) When I saw him during the "Devils and Dust " Tour he did have some other interesting new gear besides the Gretsch. On a couple of numbers he used a "porch board" which is basically an amplified wooden board that emulates the sound of the old blues guys stomping out a rhythm with their foot while playing guitar and what looked to be a solid body w/ two pick ups designed specifically for playing slide (maybe a Chandler??). He played a pretty mean Delta blues style slide on it too. I always thought that Springsteen was a much better guitar player than he is given credit for and always hoped at some point he would actually make the stripped down blues rock record in a power trio or quartet format that he has talked about doing someday in interviews and touring behind it.

i would think he will probally keep the same setup he's been using while on tour with the e street band although he has added a bullet mic, to one of his songs which is very very good.

I don't know when it was written, but I just read where Bruce asked Fender about a clone of his esquire.

Fender wrote back and offered to make a limited run of about 100 and auction the extras to donate the proceeds to the charity of Bruce's choice.

He wrote back and said " that sounds like 99 too many". :D

The article went on to say that even if they did 1 for him we would prolly never know it.

So, for now we just have to build our own :D
