I have decided that amoung the tele's i have i would like a reproduction of Bruce springsteens famous 52' i want to build it myself and get the enjoyment from it and insure all the correct parts are going into it, though im going to buy the body already painted, and im going to buy and Esquire neck as bruce has on his and add Joe Barden pickups and he has also. i was just wondering if there is any comments on this new project, thanks

the guitar is a 52 fender body with an Esquire neck both i have found at resaonable prices for the real deal of course. the interesting this is that it has 2 bridge pickups rather then 1 bridge,1 neck and a 6 saddle flat bridge, other then that it has the basic features that the 52 tele could have had, excpet for the worn aged look of course, since i was hoping Fender would maybe reproduce this guitar as they did other artists im gonna build it myself. heres a pic of that guitar

I love that guitar. In art school, we had to find an object that had multiple textures on it and paint it. I chose that guitar (that exact photo, in fact).

There is nothing like the look of a guitar that is clearly the main guitar of a musician. Eddie's frankenstrat, Stevie's SRV strat, etc. I doubt I will ever use and abuse my guitar enough to get that look.

Good luck with the project.

Actualy Bruce just removed the chrome cover off the neck pickup. Its not a bridge pick up even though it looks like one.

yea he uses them on almost all his guitars excpet his original 1952 tele, he owns the Ri model from the 90's and they those pickups, i think his original 52 contains the original pickups, he either uses 2 bridge pickups or had the cover taken of the neck pickup because they look the same

The guitar being referred to is actually a '52 Esquire (not a Tele body w/ Esquire neck) that Springsteen purchased from a recording studio in the early 70's for around $150.00  The guitar had been modded by the studio to have a second pick-up (remember Esquires have the neck pick -up rout, just no pu) and was wired to split the pu's in stereo. Over the years this guitar has gone through numerous mods....the neck profile has been shaved down to fit Bruce's hand better, Grover tuners, modern style 6 saddle brass bridge, relocated jack w/ jack plate, 60's style black, white, black laminated pickguard, and all the hardware changed to stainless steel or titanium to resist Bruce's profuse sweating. Pick-ups are stock. Would make a heckuva Custom Shop Relic. However, Springsteen has never done any product endorsements so chances are pretty remote IMHO.

He does play Takimine acoustics and Dean Markley strings, I think they are the closest he has come to endorsing any product.

i deffinitly agree i think his guitar is as legendary as Aday summers and others remodels they have done with the chips and the dents, scraps it would awesome if they could do one, he has used fender pretty much all the time since he has been in the music bussiness it deserved to be done. they could probally make more of them since its a 52 with some basic damage nothing to advanced like Summers' tele

Before he played with the E street band, Child and Steel Mill, he played a les paul. Not sure when he picked up the Esquire as his main guitar.

I knew it was his main axe by born to run. I also saw photos of him with a strat. Yes, it is weird to see him playing anything but a tele.

The last time I saw Springsteen live was during the "Devils and Dust" solo acoustic tour. He did play a couple of the more rockin' tunes on electric but instead of one of his Tele's he played a beautiful Gretsch Black Falcon. Was kind of strange seeing him on stage w/o his trusty Tele. Back in the late 70's and 80's I recall his main back up electric as being a sunburst Tele with a maple neck of a vintage unknown to me. Of course these days he seems to have quite a collection of Teles that he plays live....'62 Sunburst Custom, 90's '52 Reissue in Butterscotch, 50's style burst with a Bigsby and of course the famous '52.
