I'm looking to change some pick ups on my MIM Tele. I would love to try and get that classic Keefer sound, warm blusey I guess. Im pretty sure that its the neck pup that needs to be changed. The 2 existing pups are standard. Is it a humbucker of some sort I need to get fitted in just the neck position? If so what manufacturer etc would you recomend? Should I do anything with the bridge pup?
Thanks alot

Go to seymourduncan.com

On the right hand side you can see a list of choics about 1/3 down the page. READ....they have on in which you can pick the artist and they tell you the pickups used....or you can list your guitar and pick which artist you want to sound like that uses thier pickups....cool site.

Be well...joe

Thanks for the reply, but I'm already of the 5-string open g, I was thinkin more about the pup. What sort of neck pup do you have on that tele?

It's supposed to be a Gibson PAF (or later Gibson HB).

It's an interesting thing, because there was a debate some time ago on a different forum about whether Keef EVER uses it, due to the fact that no-one in that Forum (and there were some very devout Keef followers involved) had ever seen the pickup selector switch in any other position than the bridge pickup only.

Someone did suggest that the guitar was wired for both pickups to be working in all the switch positions...but no-one seemed to know for sure.

So, everyone seems to focus on the fact that KEEF has a Gibson HB in his guitars, but there is a strong possibility that he doesn't actually use it!

The distinctive sound is more from the 5 string open G, IMHO. I use a 5 string guitar to play certain Stones songs on stage (and the Rod Stewart song, Hot Legs) because it gives the immediately recognisable sound required. 8)
