Has anyone had any experience with this pickup? I heard from one source that the humbucker in the neck of the original '72 tele customs were commonly refered to as "mudbuckers" for obviously being muddy.

Is that what this pickup is? And is that statement even true?

Ross,

I don't know about the pickup, but if you try it, make sure that you are using CTS 500K Audio Taper Guitar Pots and a tone capacitor that is .022 mfd or less, to avoid a muddy sounding humbuckler. As you may know, Fender single pole pickup guitars use 250K Audio Taper Guitar Pots and may have capacitors that are from .022 to .045 to .1 mfd in various models.

You might want to also check out the Seymour Duncan SH1 59 Model Humbucker Pickup:

The Custom Shop has used the Seymour Duncan SH1 59 Model Humbucker Pickup on this Telecaster:

Fender is also issuing a Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Vintage Hot Rod '52 Telecaster using the Seymour Duncan SH1 59 Model Humbucker Pickup. If I was going to go to a humbuckler, this is the one I would use.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about putting a SD '59 in there after hearing the roadworn players tele in a video. Good point, I should just go for what I know will be great. Does anyone know where I can find a pick guard for a '72 tele custom that fits Gibson humbuckers? I know the warmoth website has them but they said that the holes are piloted for their warmoth bodies only so I don't know what to think.
