Whats the best telecaster copy guitar? I already have a tele, but want a secondary guitar. I have been looking at Vintage icon v52, Axl badwater eldorado, Dillions, and Agiles. Does anyone have any experience with these other types of guitars? What are your thoughts on them? Any other recommendations for telecaster copies?

A Telecaster copy that has blown my socks off was the Squier CV 50s. It has a nice pine body (like Leo used it on the first Telecasters he ever made) and sounds classic. The Hardware, fit and finish are good, too. And it has pickups with AlNiCo-magnets, what you often don`t get with cheap Telecaster copies. I`d say go for the Classic Vibe Telecaster ‘50s. It`s really value for money, plus you can always upgrade it to your likes.

I considered squiers, but I want to try something different. I still love Fenders/Squiers/G&Ls, just want to try something new. :)

I just built an Allparts Telecaster with a vintage neck and body.

The bassic design is a Andy Summers Tele. To me it looks and plays like the real deal.

Peavey made a Tele copy! Never played one but my local Peavey dealer had one last year!

Depends on your price range and what you are looking for. If you want a complete custom built guitar to your specs, I highly recommend Ron Kirn.

If you are parting something together to create something that Fender does not offer, I recommend USACG, Tommy and Rob are awesome. Bill Callaham makes incredible hardware. Matt and Mark Jenny have some fun finishing techniques. And Jason Lollar can create magic with his pickups.

Burney and Edwards copies of Teles can cost more tha MIA Teles.Dillions are quite good but for real top line Tele copies at a good price try here: http://www.guitarsjapan.com even though they're located in Japan the shipping rates are fair and they really pack their shipping cases well. They sell only top quality new and very slightly used guitars.

What about the Tokai Breezeysound Telecaster? It'll be pretty close as Tokai make Fenders Japanese models. It sounds like a good bet to me, I know someone with a 1982 Tokai Springysound Stratocaster and it's the closest to a real Fender Strat I've ever played, so I recon the Tele will be pretty close to the Fender model. Hope this helps.

Squiers are not copies.

I was unfamiliar with Ron Kirn and checked out his website. That Dude is awesome and so is the site. If you look hard enough there is a complete book on how he makes his guitars and he is meticulous. Check it out!
Wish I had a shop like that to play in. :D

I also considered making my own, but realized how time consuming it may be and also that it may never get done. Anyone have any experience or thoughts about homemade guitars? Or should I just buy one ($800 limit right now).

I had written something earlier about this in this thread.

I've had pretty good luck with home built guitars. I will admit though depending on what you buy or how you buy, it can get expensive.

Warmoth parts:
Body $165-$300
Neck $150-$300
Using a good luthier will cost you a couple of hundred dollars. Doing that work yourself will save you a lot of money.

The upside is that you get exactly what you want.
As I had written earlier I love my home built Andy Summers Tele. I just added an EMG After Burner 20db boost.
