So when I bought my HWY 1 last year I really wanted to do a Humbucker in the bridge with a nickel cover and a black pickguard. I am thinking about making this happen soon, but I have a couple questions first.

First, is my body routed for a humbucker at the neck? This is rather important as I don't really want to do any routing.

Second, I've narrowed my choices down to 2 pickups. It's down to a SD '59 or a SD Seth Lover. I wanted a close replica to the original PAF. I like the Antiquity Humbucker, but don't like the aging of the cover. I'm looking for some opinions on my 2 choices. I'm just looking for a Blues/Classic Rock sound. Something that can be overdriven nicely, nothing too dirty.

I've listened to the videos on the new Road Worn Players Tele's and love the sound. But the Seth Lover seems like it would have a more authentic vintage sound do to the construction.

So please feel free to chime in with opinions. Also please don't tell me to keep the original neck pickup in, I know it sounds good and I will keep it mounted to the original pickguard for easy switching.

Thanks.

Also...

Would the pickguard from a Blacktop Tele fit properly? I am sure the screw holes are lined up, but I'm thinking about where the pickguard fits around the Humbucker bezel on the blaktop. This is where my bridge plate would be. Would someone with a Blacktop be able to measure the width and depth of the cutout for me?

Thanks again.

So.....

I was really stumped as to what was under my pickguard. When I did a google search for Hwy1 Tele images, I saw what I feared. Bodies for sale that were not routed for a humbucker. But then while trying to find a black pickguard on eBay I found 2011 Hwy 1 bodies for sale that were in fact routed for a humbucker in the neck. WTF!

So finally I took my strings off and unscrewed the pickguard. Which was a pain in the $@!. I had to loosen off the neck to be able to get the pickguard off, which seemed a little extreme.

But alas, I do not have a humbucker routing. :(

So my new question is this. When did Fender start routing Hwy1 bodies for humbuckers?

I figure it was when they discontinued the Honey Blonde and Wine Red colours and introduced the American Specials because they are also routed for humbuckers.

So on to my next problem. The pickguard. I want a Black pickguard regardless. But as I discovered when taking my pickguard off, my neck pickup is mounted to the body and not the pickguard. So 2 more questions.

Can I reverse the mounting screws and mount my pickup to a new pickguard that has the 2 holes at the neck PUP?

and

Does anybody know of a humbucker that will fit in the neck postion, that looks like and fits like a Tele single coil neck pickup?

Thanks
