Hello, just picked up a 2007 American Deluxe Tele aged cherrryburst color. The pickups have been changed from the original Noiseless to Bill lawrence set(not sure of model). S-1 switch is also gone. The question I had was, does the pickup swap affect the sound and or value a whole lot? I bought it off Ebay but haven't recieved it yet, so I haven't actually heard what the pickups sound like. I have seen the Noiseless sets going for around 100.00, but didin't know if it was worth changing them out. Thanks for any input.

Not sure about the sound; evidently the original owner preferred the Lawrences to the original SCNs (which ironically were designed by Bill Lawrence).

It will take the value of the guitar down by at least $100-$200, particularly since the S1 is also missing.

I can`t figure out why someone would buy a Tele with these options and then take it apart and remove the features it came with. If you don`t want S-1 switching why buy it in the first place ? Pickups are one thing and can be changed to suit your taste or playing style. I would think taking certain features away from a particular model would devalue it to some degree.

I don't get why the stuff was changed. I guess the big reason I bought it was it was fairly cheap(700.00). I figured for that money, I could always put back the original stuff and still be under a grand.

I have a set of Bill and Becky's Keystones that I like a lot. Much different sound from different pickups with alnico II, III, V or Noiseless, IMO.

I'm not sure how you could buy this without asking why the pickups were changed and what models exactly are in the guitar. :?

I had a guitar with Bill Lawrence pickups......I didn't care for them at all, way too muddy. Yes, the pickup swap has changed the sound to a degree, and absolutely the parts swap has affected the value. You still got a KILLER deal, so no worries there, but you may take a bit of a hit when you go to sell it (if you ever do!) :) all guitars will usually be worth the most when left bone-stock. "Upgrades" are subjective to individual taste. Still, again, you have a real guitar there....enjoy it !
