I have an American Deluxe Tele with the S-1 switching. I never use the S-1 so I decided to swap out the volume knob with a solid version. The shaft of the pot has a shoulder part way up and that's where the set screw makes contact. Because of this the knob works loose unless I set the knob with a fairly large gap above the control plate. Seems like all of the Fender parts have the set screw in the same location. Are there any other manufacturers who position the set screw further up the knob?

Put some washers (or extra nut) between the pot and the control plate to lower the pot by the desired amount.

Thanks! I'll give that a try...
