Playing my Tele I noticed I was getting a "crackling" sound every once in awhile. I thought it was my fingernail hitting the strings as I strummed. What I found out is, as I play I rub my fingers along the pick guard and after awhile, I must be picking up static electricity, and that is what is causing the popping noise.

Without playing, I rubbed my finger tips over the pickguard, and sure enough here comes the popping sound. Maybe lack of humidity in the air maybe a consideration too.

Anybody else have that problem?

This issue has been brought up on several different threads here.

What works is placing a Bounce Dryer sheet under the pickguard.

Thanks, this was the first time I ever posted. I'm glad it isn't a problem unique to my Telecaster, that was good news.

Hi, I've had the problem too on several strats and teles. Lack of humidity definately contributes A good humidifier helped the accoustic guitars but didn't do much for this. Aside from a nice rosewood pickguard a friend made for one tele the only method I've found to work is to not remove the plastic film on a new pickguard. Also single ply PGs don't seem to do it as much. I' going to try the Bounce suggestion to see how it helps. My average humidity is about "less than 10%" without the humidifier.

I have tried the dryer sheet under the pickguard, and it works perfect.
