I bought a 1975 Fender Telecaster Deluxe on Ebay. Everything on the guitar checks out serial number wise. Pots, neck, neck pocket, pickups and headstock. The question I have is in regards to the neck plate. Three bolt, micro tilt adj, big F, .......but NO serial numbers. So, my question is....did ALL 1970's three bolt neck plates have the serial numbers stamped at the top?Fender was inconsistant with some things.....was this one of them? Im wondering if this was an aftermarket plate, or not.....and I dont know why it would be be everything else checking out. Thanks guys!

You say the serial number checks out - from what I've read the serial number was on the neck plate until sometime in 1976 when it switched to being a decal on the headstock- at least that is the case with Strats. I'm assuming that your's has the serial number on the headstock decal even though it's a '75?

Sounds like Fender might have started moving the serial number to the headstock earlier on Teles than Strats - I'll admit that over the years I've been more of a Strat fan so I haven't tracked the Teles as closely. That being said it sounds reasonable to me that your Tele (particularly since it is a model that came out in 1972) made the transition in '75.

Some photos would be nice; does the serial number begin with "75"? Supposedly Fender used the actual year as the first 2 digist before they settled on the "S" for "Seventies" plus 1st digit for the year system.

Never been able 2 figure how to post pics on this site....but the serial number on the headstock was 75XXXx ...So, because of issues w. the neck looking like the san andreas fault, the body and neck were seperated, and eventually the body was sold leaving me with a warped neck ....and the neck plate. Its been sitting around at home, so I figured Id throw it up on Ebay and see if anyone would be interested. Got an email from France that he insisted it was a reissue. So, Since I know exactly where it came from, I figured Id double check before I threw it back at him :?

this is the actual picture of the plate.....not a shameless plug. So, since it was a part of the bigger picture, I know its origins.
