I played a 52 RI the other day and was a bit disappointed. I didn`t care for the sound of the neck pick up not being wired to the tone control but they told me I can have it wired the way I like. While it was nice and light, I was not impressed with it beyond that. I don`t know maybe its just me, but I like the feel and sound of my `07 Am. Tele Deluxe much better. I know many people have them and I was wondering how you all feel about them and did you leave the neck pick up wired the way it came from the factory ?
Thanks for your opinions...

maybe that's why they have so many different models, everyone has different tastes...

They have so many different models because it's great marketing strategy. They know how we guitarists are, we have to have everything for every possible sound, and when you make many different versions of basically the same thing it causes us to buy multiple guitars that are very close to the same thing.

That being said, if you like the feel and sound of your Deluxe, what else is necessary? I think the 52 RIs are good guitars, I own a 52 Hot Rod, I've played a Am. Deluxe though and I thought it was great. Didn't like it as much as my Hot Rod though, course I may be biased because I hate thinking I made the wrong decision ^^

I tried a '52 RI a while back at the GC. I don't think anyone in their right mind would leave a '52 RI wired the way they come from the factory. It's not 1952. Other than that, it felt like a Telecaster to me...

I try AMS and 52' RI, both sounds great, but at last, I've prefered the 52' RI even if there are less sound controls, the sound as it is, is the SOUND from my point of view. I didn't change the wiring at all.

A few years ago, I went out with the sole intention of buying a 52RI. I tried a few butterscotch numbers, and noticed a deluxe in vintage cherryburst hanging on the wall. I asked to have it down, and instantly fell for her. I love everything about the deluxe, that said, I'll probably still get a 52 someday :D

I love my '52 AVRI Tele!

The 7.5 fingerboard radius and small vintage style frets took a little getting used to.. but it didn't take me long (5 or 10 minutes) and now I love the feel of it.

As far as the way it's wired ....... I had to change that ASAP LOL! I was going to take it to a tech to have it done...... but I decided to try it myself and it only took me about a 1/2 hour. Now it's perfect.

If I could only have one Tele..... my '52 AVRI would be it.

Real nice dcooper. I would like to hear one with the neck pup wired to the tone knob just to hear how it sounds. It`s not off the table just yet but I am going to try a Hot Rod Tele before I make my mind up. Right now I`m very happy with my Deluxe and will take my time before I decide on what I get next.

I had the exact experience you had, Snowy. I walked into Guitar Center planning to bring a '52 Reissue home and ended up falling for an Aged Cherry American Deluxe.

The '52 Reissues are still calling to me, though. Go figure.

The original wiring of the telecaster RI 52, had no tone control on the neck pickup. At the time, was to replace a bass guitar.

Now, there are wiring possible to have the tone control on the neck pickup. Everything is planned with the guitar.
A wiring you according to your preferences.

Personally, I wired my IR 52 in "modern", like many, I think. :)

Thats what happened to me. I went to look at a 52 RI and went home with an Am. Deluxe in Aged Cherry Sunburst. I love this Tele and find it hard to put down. Like you, one day I`ll probably get a RI but I`m so happy with this Tele I`m not even thinking about it.

Thanks for that Snowy and I`m sure you have some nice guitars too. I have that same Tele and color as Johnbohn. I actually traded in a `08 Am. Std. Strat for it, that`s how much I liked it after I played it. Maybe one day I`ll look at the 52 RI or the Hot Rod again. But right now I`m pretty happy with this one and I`m putting the others on hold for awhile.
