Hi folks!
I'm new in this community, looking for a Tele - and found one, that's interesting me. It's one of the Custom Shop, a 52 model in surfgreen with maple-neck. I could not identify the Serial number (BP 128) via internet-searchengine. So I don't know: can I take it or not. Someone of you an expert?

Greetings from germany
Christian

Hi biflat,

Pictures would help, and the condition and price matters. We need more details. :)

I've never seen a serial number like that but Fender does use odd serial numbers on special runs for retailers. Like shimmilou says photos would be helpful.

Don't they sometimes use the initials of a Master Builder for their serial numbers? I know that John Cruz-built guitars typically have a serial number that starts with "JC" but there isn't a current master builder with the initials "BP".

Hi shimmilou,
thanks for quick answering! I am too stupid to get a picture inside. I have made a copy from the website of the dealer (http://www.rareguitar.de/category/gitarren/e-gitarren) but can't get it in. As you can see, he wants to have 1790,- Euro. Perhaps I can haggle a little bit. But more important for me is it to know: is this a good guitar? Why did the searchengine not find the serialnumber?
Thanks John C for your post. That are exactly my considerations!

Most of those serial number searches only contain information on production line Fenders; the Custom Shop has several serial number systems and all are different from the production line serial numbers. Fender hasn't updated their serial number page since 2005 even though they completely changed the system for production line models as of last year.

I'm no expert but it looks like a legit CS Tele that was done as some kind of special run, hence the special serial number. I would do two things - first, email Fender Consumer Relations with the serial number (go to the "Support" tab at the top of the website and go to "Contact Us" for the email address); second, copy the information in this post into the "Custom Shop" forum and the "Ask Mike Eldred" forum; the Custom Shop experts check in down there (plus Mike Eldred runs the CS).

I will follow your recommendations but first check it today. Looking how it feels and sounds. Don't know if I can resist if its good. Will tell you later....

Checked it: Sounds nice but did not feel as "my guitar" at the moment. Perhaps that comes when I clean and polish everything. (I hate blunt necks where everyone grabbed with his sticky fingers) The neck is of course unfamiliar because its more thick than the neck of my American Deluxe Strat. So I will make my dessicion a bit later. What do you mean about the price?
