Okay, if you read my below post you will notice I removed my pickguard to clean it while restringing. I removed the two adjustments screws that held in the front pickup and when I replaced everything I quickly noticed there is indefinite adjustment to the pickup-I assume the rear bridge one is the same(adjustable).

How does a person know what the correct angle and height adjustment for the pickups are?

Is there a "standard" height that one can measure(I assume you would measure at the 6th and 1st strings and the pickup would then be correctly angled)?

What are any problems you can cause by incorrect adjustment(if any)?

In case it matters, the my Tele has Samarian Cobalt Noiseless neck and bridge pickups.

thanks
Daryl Crisp

there is a proper setting for them, my tech always try to set them correctly, however, i crank them up as hi as i can to get a fatter fuller sound and cause my amp to break up at a lower volume. That is just my opnion.

There is no standard pickup height, although there is a "from the factory" spec.

Most Tele players I know prefer their pickups set a bit lower than factory spec. Crank the pickups down for a more open, "stringy" tone and, let the amp do the work. Other want more output, so they crank them up.

You can't hurt your signal chain no matter where you set them.

Here's the best way to get a Tele set up by ear:

Crank the pickups all the way down to the deck. Select the neck pickup, and raise it a tiny bit at a time, playing the guitar at each setting until it sounds really good to you. Then set the bridge pickup to match the output of the neck.

I have a similar question:

I recently had my pickup fixed and when I got it back, the pickup was not flat. The low E side was much higher than the high E side.

Could this be intentional, or was this probably a mistake?

I'm gonna call the guy to see, but I wanted to get your guy's opinion as well.
