Big fan of my '09 Blackout Tele. It has definitely exceeded my expectations.

I have an `07 American Deluxe Tele in aged Cherry and I love it. Has the same body contour like the Strats have and is very comfortable to play.

It took me all of my ability to avoid making any unnecessary Monty Python allusions. That being said, I fart in your general direction for asking such a silly question ^^ I'm kinda sentimental to the old Esquires being the ultimate. Just raw simplicity, something I admire in the guitar world. Make the player have the versatility rather than the gear. It is the original, and often the original is the best. That being said, I am quite attached to my 52 Hot Rod though (2009 or 10 I think), that mini humbucker makes me smile and that tele bridge makes me go full out grin.

Many people didn't appear to answer cos' this is a very personal question. Since few people had the opportunity to play vintages or even a big number of modern models, we have to limit our responses to "my Tele" and be happy with it. And I agree - we should be happy with what we can afford. If someone thinks his guitar lacks in some department, he can do a research and find pickups which are better suited for the music he makes, change tuners, body finish, neck etc and you make it the best for yourself- that's part of the fun and that was Leo's idea when he developed his line of guitars.

But being more direct, the most sought after Teles (by collectors) are the ones made from 1950-1954. (Known as "blackguards" for their black pickguards, obviously). That doesn't mean they are my favorite Teles - first of all, I never played one (few people in the world ever had the chance, specially if you are outside the USA). But as far as historical value goes, they sell for more than the others (post 1954) and are rarer.

A Fender Broadcaster (Telecaster's original name, from 1950) in good conditions will probably sell for more $$ than a 52-54 Tele.

I think those Blackouts look so cool. I'm going to have to try one out one of these days. Probably get some interesting tones with the 3 pickups.

My fav is my Floodcaster which was a Parts-caster that I've had since the 80s. I have no idea who made the bridge pickup, or the body. The neck is a MIM standard from the 90s or 00s and the neck pickup is a Duncan Antiquity. There is just something about this guitar, the feel and the tone are just what I'm looking for. A good friend of mine was a drummer and has been wanting to switch to guitar and like an idiot I keep letting him borrow this one. Last night he came by to jam, and I let him take it again  . Hope I get some good karma out of it!

Alright then

It's an olympic white 60's Classic Tele, made in 2001, so it's quite yellowed. Deal of the century: I paied 315,00 US$ for it in 2006. Felt like home first time I had it in hands. But I found the bridge pickup to be kinda weak, so 1 year later, after a lot fo research I changed it to a Seymour D. "Broadcaster" pickup model. The sound I got: fuller mids, more output, the highs are kinda compressed, but they cut through really well. More sustain and more quiet. The lows and low-mids can be a little overbearing if the pickup height is not well adjusted (and if you play through a Marshall, per example). Pickguard was changed to 1-ply white on Nov. 2006. All the rest is stock. 3 weeks ago I went back to the original pickup since the Duncan simply had a shortcut and needs rewinding! Big bummer! I still think the Duncan was a more versatile pickup though, but i'm not sure if I'll pay for the rewind - the service around here costs about 70% of the price of a new pickup.

If I was to buy another Tele I think I'd go with a 9,5" radius so I'd be able to lower the action a little bit and still avoid the fret-outs past the 15th fret. Also, I've been thinking I'd rather install a bridge pickup that is between the Broadcaster and the original alnico V pickup, both have really good qualities.
