I've seen many tribute sites for Gatton and others, but today I came
across a great Buchanan site run by pickup maker, Don Mare :

http://roybuchanan.org/

It has some great details about Roy's '53 Tele and a good read, IMO. 8)

I signed his guestbook...it seems that he reviews what people write before he
allows to be shown.

Your welcome my good friend!

I've always liked Roy's Second Album with "After Hours" and "Treat Her Right".

It's a great tune and fun to play. Roy Head did the original, but Roy Buchanan's version, especially the solo, is amazing, IMO.

I`m learning Sweet Dreams and After Hours, and all I can say is Buchanan sure had a style of his own that no one has ever come close to duplicating. I have an album called The Best of Roy Buchanan...The Millennium Collection. Every song explodes with runs, bends, and volume swells. If I`m not mistaken, Clapton asked him to join Derek and The Dominos but Buchanan refused because he had his own band at the time.

Good post...thanks

Yer welcome! From the "Bio" in original post link :

"The firmament of stars who discovered in Buchanan the essence of American roots music included John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The Rolling Stones, so it is said, asked Buchanan to join their band (he is said to have declined). Eric Clapton saw Buchanan perform once and proclaimed him "...the best in the world." Buchanan set a youthful Robbie Robertson (later of the Band) on a stylistic course of his own. Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead touted Buchanan's "...amazing chops." Jeff Beck learned Telecaster techniques from him, became a friend, and continues to hold him in awe. In jazz circles - not often a source of admirers for rock and roll players - Les Paul, Charlie Byrd, Barney Kessell, and Mundell Lowe were quick to recognize and praise Buchanan's talents (and they still do)."

I could see why these rock icons wanted to have Roy B. in their band. His unique style would compliment any of them.

I only saw Roy perform a few times, but each show was different from the others and he seemed to never play the same arrangements. The one thing that always sounded great was his tone! 8)

When you listen to some of his recordings, you can even hear him flip the selector switch of his Telecasters. 'Sweet Dreams' was a cool cover of the original and his solo on 'Lonesome Fugitive' is just amazing.

Thats right Mike you can hear him flip the switch to different pick up positions. You can hear that in After Hours too and also in other songs on the album I mentioned above. I know of at least 3 to 4 different versions of Sweet Dreams alone. The one I`m learning is from a live performance on Youtube. If I knew how to post those youtube links I would do it but I`m not sure how to get that posted...any help would be appreciated I`d like you to hear that version.

The first 'live' version I found was this one :

Roy Buchanan is perhaps famous for his Bluesmaster Telecaster (used by George Harrison during his 1991 Japanese tour with Eric Clapton) and his Tele-style Guild T-200 & 250.

Roy also used a sunburst Telecaster Custom with a rosewood neck among others....

I saw Roy in Portland,Or. shortly before his death. That night he was using Nancy and with him were Edgar Winters bass player and Roseanne Cash's drummer. It was pure magic, I'll never forget that one.
