So I finally bought a telecaster... This one however is a top loader... It was my newbie-ness that I didn't realize the guitar was a top loader.. But it sounds pretty damn good to me anyway.. Its a japanese tl-354 basswood body... 1984 or 1985 model I believe...

Plays smooth, sounds awesome.. One thing about teles that I have found that is a bit different from other guitars is that the neck pickup imho responds the best in the neck position.. compared to other guitars... I like the middle position.. but the bridge just seems so damn twangy ... I could only see myself playing country with just the bridge..

  funny... my les paul custom doesn't seem have bad tone... and last time I checked, all les pauls were top loaders...

I can't speak for other top loaders, but this one had great tone... and it doesn't hurt that I play through a deluxe reverb reissue.

Nice Tele. That bridge pick up is what the Tele is noted for in country music, gives you that twang. The neck pick up is nice too. When I played my Am. Deluxe in the store I knew right away that was my next guitar. I`ve had a few Strats and their great but their all over the place. There`s nothing like a hooked up Tele.

Great looking Tele. Play the fretts down to the fingerboard before any thoughts of selling/trading her off. :D

Cheers,

nice fiddle ya got there. good score. as for that twangy bridge pup, set that guitar up with 11's and then tell me what ya think. dont judge just try it. you will see a very sweet difference in the over all tone of that jewel. i have 11's on mine and will never go backwards.

I know what you mean... the only strings I had laying around were 9's... So, if it sounds good now, I can only imagine the 11's would really spice it up... I really like the Gibson Reissues and Ernie Ball Slinky's... the more nickel the better... Pure nickel is what I strive for ... But I am not sure there are any pure nickel slinkys...

What do you like ?

ok please know that going from 9's to 11's takes some getting use to. seriously.
it took me about a week or so. now i love them.
i found 11's on the tele from a friends brother. he sold me a sweet tele at a freakin steal, a real steal too. he took advice from a guy to put 11's on it. he did but didnt like it after that. well he forgot 1 key thing, he didnt set the guitar up for the new string size.
he said he did but it was way off. i knew the deal as soon as i played it too. i asked him if it was set up, he said yep. i asked him if he was sure he wanted to sell it and he said yes. i bought it on the spot and took it directly to my then setuo
guy for a tweaking. man its wonderful too. i played this thing for a month straight
w/o playing any of my other guitars. you get some thickness but yet a tele tone.
DONT FORGET THE CRITICAL SETUP when switching to the 11's.
i cant play a tele setup with anything less now, its crazy.
i like ernie ball and Addario strings. ive tried the lastest and greatest since the mid 80s and always come home quickly to these two.
there are folks out there that say there is very little difference in strings. thats BS too.
my fingers know the difference. i dont give a ratz azz how long strings last, i want performance from my strings. strings make a huge difference to me.
they are whats between my fingers and those funny looking microphones we call pickups.
if they strings cant translate what im saying to the pups, i dont want them.
a lot of people like the sound of new strings. i dont for the most part. i like mine burned in for about a week, then we are rockin lol.
here is how im doing it, i use 11's on the tele's, 10's on the strats, and 9's on my vintage stuff simply because i dont want to stress the necks any more than i have to since i rarely play them anyways. my floyd equipt guitars mostly have 9's on them with a few 10's. i like that ear bleeding tone you needed for 80s hair metal and 9's give it to me on those. there ya go hope it helps. oh and dont forget to set that tele up for 11's when you make the switch and give your finger and ears time to get use to it.
set your amp up for the bluesiest tone you can get too. it will be slightly different than
with lower string sizes. your tone will be thicker and you might want to readjust you amp and pedal settings. just a tweak here and there is all.

way cool... nothing to get used to.. I use 12's (flatwounds) on my Guild X-170... And I use 11's on my ES-137... And as far as setting the guitar up... that's really quite easy and I have done it many time...

Yes, its my first telecaster.. But certainly not my first rodeo...

Anyway, I am very curious to hear what a thicker string will do on a telecaster... I will admit the tele is a very different souding guitar from most models... It really is in a class all of it's own...
