I'm a guitar and amp tech and volunteer my time to work on guitars and equiptment for the worship team at my church. I also teach some of the students that play how to care for and maintain their guitars. One student recently bought, on Ebay, a 62' Reissue that the seller claimed was an 80's model made in Japan. It has an SQ+5 serial number at the base of the neck, that's irrelevant to my question though.
What I couldn't see, and what bothered me, was that there are no neck or body markings or stamps; the only thing that I could see was in the neck pickup pocket where under the clear finish you could see a black stamped number 12 in block type face.
The guitar is beautiful with a bound body and sunburst finish, the neck is maple with rosewood fretboard and the fretwork is immaculate. The pickups are Texas Specials.
I think that he paid high market for an 80's Japanese telecaster and I think that this guitar is worth the price from the quality of materials and workmanship that I observed, but I wonder if it is what the seller claims it is. What body markings should I see on the neck and in the neck pocket?
Thanks,
Louis
