Hey there,

I've had a 2002 american series for a while now with a stock humbucker in the neck, and i was looking to try my hand at a bit of guitar customisation and try fitting a nice new pickup there...

So any suggestions? Since studying music at uni i've been getting into jazz more and a good thick sounding one would be nice... I'm playing more clean tones these days i guess, but i'm open to suggestions for a good all-round pickup.

Also, what do you guys think? A black pickguard needed? I go back and forth as to whether the guitar would look better with one...

Image
(Not mine but the only picture i could find of a guitar like mine)

Thanks in advance,
Adam

I don't know whats available to you there. I would imagine Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio(first that came to mind) are probably available either in stock or could order them. I know that Seymour Duncan offers several models that would fit the criteria. They have a Jazz model, a 59 model and a Seth Lover model that may be to your liking. You have internet access and there are many custom pickup builders out there if you have something definite in mind. One that I would recommend is O.C. Duff Pickups (Owen Duffy). He is very good to work with, great pickups and service. As far as the pickguard goes, you didn't say what color your Tele was. Guitar Fetish offers alot of pickguards at a pretty reasonable price. There's alot of options out there for pickguards. Does your Tele currently have a pickguard? Sometimes I think they look cool without one. Don't know if I've helped you. Keep up the search, there's alot of good info in forums.
