The wiring of pick-ups could be different, I believe 8)

Both the 50s and 60s Classic Series are wired the same and have the same pickups and bridge hardware (the service diagrams under the Support tab at the top of this site prove that). So not much of a difference in sound between the two. Just cosmetically different.

Some will say that there might be a difference in that the 50s will be brighter because of the maple fretboard and ash body. The 60s might be darker with the rosewood fretboard and alder body. But I've played bright spanky 60s Classics, and played 50s Classics that were bassy and dark. Every piece of wood is different. Pick the one that sounds best to YOU.

What you said is that the wiring is "standard" and not as the 52' with the "bass sound" on the first position for the neck pick-up!

One other key difference - the '50s Classic has a 1.625" nut width and the '60s Classic has a 1.650" nut width. The '50s Esquire also has the narrower nut width.
