I have a 1983 fender Tele with a "red" lace sensor pickup in the bridge. It says "Fender Lace Sensor" on it. All solder joints appear original. My question is did Fender offer these as an option upgrade during that time? Did you have to order it as such? Ive never seen another like it. Any knowledge would help as a local store owner did share they were offered at the time.

Any photos of the guitar? Does it have 2 "red" lace sensors in a humbucker route?

Lace Sensors date to 1987 - at least the gold, blue and silver versions used on Strats (the Strat Plus and Strat Plus Deluxe); I think the Red would date to about 1988 for the Tele Plus/Tele Plus Deluxe and the updated Strat Plus Deluxe.

There wasn't a Telecaster Plus in 1983! The guitar you're talking about is the Telecaster Elite, a souped-up variant of the standard Telecaster with two special-design humbucking pickups, active electronics, serrated rubber knobs and a Freeflight hardtail bridge. Some versions came with a Gibson-style pickguard, others were shipped with plain bodies. These guitars became famous in the hands of artists such as Johnny Hallyday, Andy Summers, Dave Davies and Michael Houser.

The Strat Plus Deluxe featured a single Red Lace Sensor in the bridge.

Tele Pluses and their Deluxe variants used a dual Red Sensor humbucker pickup, which was also OEM on the Strat Ultra and the Custom Shop Set-Neck & USA Contemporary models.

The Gold Lace Sensor was officially launched in 1985 with the other variants (Silver, Blue, Red) following a couple of years later.

If you had quoted my entire post you would see that I asked the OP if his Tele had 2 red Lace Sensors in a humbucker route - that's the easiest way to describe the "Dually" laces to someone not familiar with them. Someone here on the forum has a Strat Plus Deluxe from 1989 with an "E3XXXXX" serial number so it wouldn't be out of realm of possibility for a 1988/89 Tele Plus to have an "E3XXXXX" serial number. The OP really needs to post some photos, because you would expect a 1983 Tele to be either the Elite or the "cost-cutter" Standard with the top-loading bridge.

Wow Chromeface, you really know a lot about the history of Fender guitars man :) Always interesting posts, but we'll wait till (as John C said) the OP posts some pics, then we'll know for sure.
