Only got this yesterday. Had to trade a MIM Tele and Strat and an Epiphone Casino plus some cash for it. It was worth it. :)
S1 Switching, N3 noiseless pickups, locking tuners and strap locks and those looks. A 1950s Tele with 21st century technology. A real beauty!

Nice! You got a 2009 with all the new features of the 2010's. How's that baby sound and feel?

Actually it is a 2010 model. At least since the previous update to the American Deluxes (the 2004 models) Fender has made a complete production run prior to announcing the new guitars so they have inventory to ship immediately after the official introduction. Therefore the very first run of 2010-spec American Deluxes were actually made in late 2009 and carry a 2009 (i.e. DZ9XXXXXX) serial number. You will also find 2009 serial numbers on the first runs of American Specials, I have seen 2008 American Standards with 2007 serial numbers as well.

I myself had a 2004 American Deluxe V-neck Strat, a model that wasn't introduced until the January 2004 NAMM show, with a DZ3XXXXXX serial number and a plain neck plate instead of the 2004 "50th Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster" logo neck plate that I purchased in early March 2004. I believe that was the first time Fender had a stockpile of new models ready to ship immediately after the NAMM Show, and they have done this ever since. There used to be a joke that "NAMM" stands for "Not Available, Maybe May" meaning products shown in January hit the streets in May. Fender was trying to avoid that by having stock ready to go.

Thanks everyone.

Yep, when I checked the serial number online I was surprised to find it was a 2009 model but I'm not worried, as long it it comes with all the features promised on the 2010 models then I'm happy.

Very pretty Tele; I should have mentioned that in my first post.

Please re-read my post - it is a 2010 model. A guitar with those specs was not made available for sale to the public until March 2010. Fender just made the first run in November/December 2009 so they could ship them out in March after they were introduced; therefore they carry a "DZ9XXXXXX" serial number. I suspect if you contact Fender with the serial number you will find the guitar didn't ship anywhere until March or April 2010 at the earliest.

I don't know why Fender didn't release these until March 2010; I suspect they made a last second decision to only introduce the American Special guitars at the January 2010 NAMM show.

Dating a Fender by serial number is dodgy at best - I mentioned my 2004 American Deluxe V-neck Strat (a model not sold to the public until January 2004) with a Dz3XXXXXX serial number. I alos have a Lead II with an E0XXXXX serial number I purchased on 11/23/1979 - they didn't come out until September/October of 1979 so I guess Fender didn't bother to get Lead I/Lead II decals with S9XXXXX serial numbers printed up.
