I have always owned Stratocasters and have been thinking about a new Telecaster. Maybe this is a dumb question but, as a Stratocaster owner why should I also own a Telecaster? What difference/benefit will I experience? Thanks

You'll get a completely different feel and sound from a tele - I own both - a MIA Strat dx and a Tele (MIA Std) and love both, but you can't beat that trademark twangy raw sound you get from a tele - it's also iconic, now celebrating it's 60th anniversay. Reason enough to get one, I think..... :D

Depends what Strat and Tele you compare. I had always played a 70s Strat as well and bought a 73 Tele not long ago, in my case it feels and sounds much different. My Tele is very light while my old Strat weights almost has much as a LP. That lipstick pickup is so clear and bright, I bet it could make my ears bleed :) But in all they both make music. Do you absolutely need one if you have a Strat? No. But do you want one? Probably. Try one and see how you like it.

If I may add, my Strat is still my number 1, I like using tremolos...

For years I only played Strats. I always loved the look and sound of a Tele but for some reason I never got one. 2 years ago my gorgeous wife bought me a Tele and that was it. Strats are nice but they really hide your playing. You can fake it alot, a Tele...it does not let you fake it you have to earn the tone and when you do you are rewarded with the sweetest tones ever, and with the twist of the knobs down right banshee wailing!! Gotta have me some Tele!!
ABS :D

I asked myself the same question once, was easily answered once I plugged a 52 Hot Rod into a Champ, both of which I now own ^^

I like Teles for the fact that the're a little twangier than Strats in general. Seems to have more of a cutting tone when using overdrive, and I like that.

Strats were always my favorites, until I played a Tele. I bought an Am. Deluxe and I can`t put it down. This is my 5th Tele, the 4 other Teles I sold to upgrade to the one I have now.

i chose the Tele from the first time I played guitar. A friend of mine has every guitar you can imagine, I played them all and the Tele just felt right. It just felt right with the size, weight, neck, the slab edges. It's a working mans guitar. Not much pretty about it (although I think they are beautiful) but man they are players!

The Tele is a raw, crude instrument compared to the Strat. That raw crudeness makes the Tele one of the most expressive instruments ever made which is wonderful if you have good hands and potentially painful on the ears if you're a novice. The Tele is not as forgiving as the Strat. It's a mixed blessing and it's not for everybody. I love mine and would never NOT have one in my arsenal.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

To be clear, Telecasters do not have a lipstick pickup. It is a single coil wtih a chrome or nickel plated cover. The lipstick pickup was a Danelectro design. Many people mistake them for the same thing because of the silver covers.

And Telecasters are awesome. The Tele is more crude, but that forces you to play better. There are tones you can get out of a Tele that you can't get any other way. Plus it looks cooler than the Strat.
