I visited my local guitar shop and came across this little gem.

A few issues I had--Some refinishing was done, the neck is shimmed (not sure if this is a bad thing), a crack (maybe) by the neck on the body...it's from '74 (not sure if this is a good year).

Any advice??? It's on consignment--They are asking $1500

Thanks, folks!

Depends.

Is it a 1974 reissue or a real 1974?

Is the crack in the finish or the wood?

More pictures are needed here.

Hi Beyond Description,

Nice looking guitar! It is not unusual for a Fender to have a shim in the neck pocket. It is only there to adjust the angle that the neck meets the body, and some come from the factory with a shim. Elderly is a reputable store, should be no problem buying from them.

I used the link, it looks nice, but I would ask them to take pictures of the crack in question, again if it's in the paint it's no big deal, if it's the body spliting that is quite another deal.

Elderly is a solid company with a good reputation, I am sure if you ask them to they will be willing to pull the neck and send you some pictures.

i went to this shop a few weeks back. very big store and they have everything. my biggest problem with them is they are asking about $3-$500 to much on their guitars.
just my opinion, but its one i trust.

1974 LPB Double Humbucker Thinline..... you don't see many of them around mate! If the crack is superficial (just the paint) and the action feels right (due to the shim) then the ONLY question you have is price. I found only one other LPB HH Thinline online.

You sure it's not a 72 Ri? probably not at 500 more than the new asking price.

If it is a 74 for that price I'd snap it up personally.
