I ordered an American Standard Tele through GC and it is back-ordered, with the typical shifting shipping date. That being said, I have found the exact same guitar in stock at my local Best Buy. I have bought 98% of my equipment through my local GC, but I have doubts on the shipping dates. My question is - has anyone purchased a guitar through BB? Would I be an idiot to get it there?

This is my first post, so I appreciate any thoughts.

Regards,
Chuck

Hi mbanole,

Yeah, I've seen the Fender guitars advertised at BB, I think that they have some relationship with GC. Maybe GC owns BB? Not sure. I have dealt with BB for many years, they are an excellent retailer, can't imagine a problem buying from them. No reason to wait if BB has the one that you want. :)

I purchased my 72 Deluxe ri tele from BB. It was great, brand new, we opened the box right there in front of me. No one played it before me! They also met a 20% off deal I had with GC and did not need to prove anything to them to get the discount! As someone else stated, they will deal with you.

Do they do this in Canada?

Nevin, doesn't look like it. Here's a link to their US stores that sell instruments: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/null/p ... 7600050015
Looks like you can order online though. They do make deals, but my concern on guitars they sell is drying out of the necks; their instrument store is part of the larger store - no humidifiers. Several of the guitars I've played there have frets sticking out. Hope that helps.

Humidifiers? It's always funny to me because down here in South Florida the humidity is always high. If it get under 70% that is an uncommon occurence. In fact we run the A/C all year to keep the humidity out of the house!

Not all Best buys have a music department! The one in Clearwater, FL does! Some only sell the First act instruments!

My local Best Buy has an instrument dept., but I've never seen anything but "student" guitars that run like 80 bucks. I had no clue they were in the business of selling anything more than that. I always just go there for CDs (yes I'm old school, I still listen to CDs  )

Thanks for all the input. I went ahead and bought it...figured a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. :D

Got an American Standard natural with a maple neck for $900, compared to the $850 deal I had at GC. That deal, however, included a $150 "trade up" discount, so I figured the BB deal was pretty good. Plus, with double Reward Zone points...

Anyway, will see how it works out. Was in the box, unopened.

The only thing that would deter me from buying at BB is their return policy. I have heard they have a 15% restocking fee on their returns.

I was worried about that, too. Asked and they said "no", which I verified to the "small print". My only other concern was getting adjustments made in the first few days/months. They said they can do that, but not sure I want them touching my Tele.

Im sure it varies store to store, or town to town. The tech at our Best Buy is great (currently). Just like anywhere else you never know how long they will stay
