i bought a ivory tele with gold accents about 6 years ago from a friend and now i am interested in selling it and i noticed that it has no serial numbers on it. any ideas on how to tell the date?
it is in excellent condition and it has to be at least 15 years old.
any ideas, email me at slmaez@yahoo.com

Some photos would be helpful; you can also always remove the neck and look for dates, etc. Is it a 52-style Tele? These have the serial number stamped on the bridge plate.

It's the number stamped on the "Ash tray" bridge assembly. I'm betting that it has a Made in Japan decal on the back of the neck just before the body junction. Right???

Hopefully this info will help someone else with one of the same series of MIJ Fender Telecasters. Typical of Fender at that time period, they were (probably still are) more consumed with making a fast buck, than making sense with what they were selling and not keeping appropriate records about them.

My Uncle worked for Fender from the early 60's through CBS and the new ownership group he was part of until he left in 1995 (passed away in 2000). He would be rolling over in his grave over the crap (Chinese, Indonesian, Indian, Philippines) Fender has been selling, the inconsistent models and record keeping since he left to retire. Just my opinion (I'd guess his too, since we were close).

Wow, your uncle work for Fender in '60 !!!!! great. ! I went to Fullerton this spring to see the city and Leo place. I see his grave too.

He talk to you often about those year or you are too young ?

My opinion about cheap ( low cost asian Fender ) is ; This low cost guitar can drive young player, and begginner to Fender product for the rest of their live maybe.

Those young player can buy the same name on the guitar than their guitar hero. In place to buy no name guitar
