Hello to all. I'm the new guy around here. I have always loved Fenders and think that I always will. I have a question though about pups. I recently inherited my dad's 66 Tele. The bridge pup is horrible. I'm curious if it is at all possible to have a bridge pup rewound? I don't really want to change it seeing that it is still original. The guitar was gigged for at least 35 years and has an amazing sound.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or can anybody suggest a quality country twang bridge pup that would do this old girl justice.

Fender has a repair facility in Nashville (at least that's where I believe it is)and they will rewind your Fender pickups for about $160 the last time I checked. Your best bet would be to contact Jeff Krause at the facility and inquire,he's quite helpful in these matters. His email is: jkrause@fender.com Getting the windings done at Fender will ensure the value of your guitar will not depreciate as much as it would by going else where. You first must be sure that the pickup really needs a rewind and that it's not a cold solder join or some other cause that could be remedied fairly easily.Good luck.BTW installing a replacement pickup would be really detrimental to the value of the guitar which is now roughly $12,000-$15,000 for sunburst and $15,000 -$25,000 for custom colours. Any alterations at all outside of a regular setup, maintenance etc. would cause the value to plummet drastically-take real good care of that little gem.

Thank you for the help. I checked the the pickup with a ohm meter and got no continuity. So I figure that it does require to be rewound. I'll let you know how I make out.

On a side note this guitar has been played alot. It is stained completely orange from nicotine after years in the bars. I was originally had like a red velvet on it. My dad took off what he could but there is still evidence under the neck plate, pick guard and bridge. I don't ever really plan on getting rid of it so as for the value it would be totally for insurance reasons only.
