hy guys,new to this forum
i own a les paul studio, but with time i realized the sound was to dark, and just to wild,i also own a standard telecaster and end up playing it most of the time.especially live.i would like to sell the gibson and get a telecaster deluxe (2 humbuckers).i need your opinion on this.2 humbuckers on the tele should get me the sustain and warmth.i play rock, classic rock type of music.and go trough a fender hot rod deluxe with a couple of effects.

Go play the tele to make sure it does what you want. I'm not sure you'll get the same sustain w/ the tele; acoustically my Studio lasts about 2 seconds longer than my Am Dlx Tele. Which studio do you have? The vintage mahoganys with the burst buckers are a lot darker than the regular setup with 490/498 pups. Of course if you've already go your mind made up then just go do it - this is a telecaster forum after all!

i have the VM studio with the burstbuckers, well,i would go and try one,but i have to travel about 600 km to find the first tele,so i´m gathering some information first.the studio is great, but first,it´s heavy as hell,a 3 hour gig is like suicide, and the sound is way to muddy, maybe it has something to do with the lacking of a maple top??

In some ways it's like comparing apples and oranges. But I used to have a Hamer USA Eclipse (Mahogany body, set neck, 24 3/4" scale, wraparound tailpiece, two Seymour Duncan Mini Humbuckers), and got a MIJ '72 Tele Thinline RI (with 'Wide Range' humbuckers--I'm presuming you're looking at a '72 Tele Deluxe RI?), and compared the two. I found the Thinline to have much clearer highs and a MUCH better bass response, but tonally they were very similar. I never found sustain to be an issue, and actually I think the Thinline sustains better, even acoustically.

I kept the Tele Thinline (I have 4 now), and sold the Eclipse.

At the end of the day, it depends on what you like personally. There's no way to really know without trying the Tele.

well i guess from what you said, the eclipse should resemble a les paul.yes,i was thinking about a tele deluxe with two wide range humbuckers.but didn´t consider a thinline, what do you think is an overall better guitar, the solid body deluxe or the thinline.

I wouldn't mind having a Deluxe if the body wasn't too heavy. The '72 Deluxe and '72 Thinline seem to share the same pickups and bridge setup (which is why I mentioned it for comparison). The Thinline seems to sound a bit more 'airy' (kind of like a traditional semi-hollowbody), and I like the weight and responsiveness. But again, try before you buy!

I have a solid mahogany Hamer USA Special with full sized factory installed Humbuckers and a Tune-O-Matic bridge (rather rare as they usually had P-90 pickups), and I still prefer the Tele Thinline for the reasons I mentioned before. My Thinlines seem to have a better bass response to me than even my USA '52 Tele reissue. Perhaps it's due to the differences in the bridge saddles and the pickups.
