I did a similiar job on one of my teles that I built from parts. The frets were a little short once the neck enlarged and I found the strings would slide off the lower E. I thought maybe I did a bad job, but the tech I use said it just happens sometimes. I replaced the neck anyway and won't be filing any frets in the future.

Hi Tyronne, what would you recommend to clean a maple fretboard with? I've heard that just a damp cloth would do but I'd rather get your opinion. Thanks!

Nice drink choices though.

Hello Liam,
Sorry for not answering quicker but I've been away from the forum for a few months.

To answer your question..a damp cloth is fine. Most Fender Maple fretboards are finished with a gloss or semi-gloss poly that is pretty much indestructible. Well, a hammer certainly will do a number on it!

If it was Rosewood then as most folks have suggested in other posts..a dab of Murphy's Soap followed by a treatment of Lemon oil or any good furniture polish.

Thank you Sir.

It's been just over a year that I did the work above. It still plays/feels great and I recently did some work on my Strat and Hamer guitars.

With the Hamer, I replaced the 2 stock "Duncan Designed" humbuckers with Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAFs. Tore out the pots and switches and put in newer ones. Changed the cap as well. It sounds like a completely different guitar! In a good way. I did this on this past New Year's Eve.

The Strat I did some work to get rid of an annoying fret buzz. Also did some neck work, similar to what I did on the Tele. Only this time I rustled up enough courage to actually take the neck off. For some reason I've been scared to do this on my Tele and Strat. in the end, it was somewhat anti-climatic since it was just unscrewing 4 screws and a bit of a wiggle and off it came!

Why was I so scared?
