Doing a re-furb and was looking at the p# 099-2119-000 pickups, advertised as the ones in the '52 re-issue.

Thought I read these Tele's were MIM (not that there's anything wrong with that!) but then the question comes up, are the pickups all MIA or MIM? Or is Fender getting the replacements from overseas?

Looking around, I'm also seeing p# 099-2109-000, Fender 'nocaster pickup set and p# 099-2116-000, the latter advertised as the noiseless series.

And before I get any helpful comments about other manufacturers, for this particular re-build one of the requirements is it has to be Fender pickups.

Fender makes all their own pickups in the same production facilities as the guitars.

Not completely true, but true for MIM and MIA Fenders.

Asian Fenders FMIC imports have all sorts of non-Fender-made pickups in them, some quite good. Of course the "Special" series has US Seymour Duncans.

As of a few years ago, FMIC production managers told me that all Fender Humbuckers were US-made, even those on MIM guitars, though single-coils were boith MIA and MIM. This may have changed in the intervening years.

Lots of vintage Fender guys have been impressed by the accuracy of various "vintage" pickups that come on the Dyna Gakki contract Fenders, but nobody seems to know who makes them.

If what you are looking for is a set of 52 pick ups for your Telie, then the custom shop sells them as a set, here is a set on e-bay for 82.00. (That is the buy-it-now price)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Fender-Original-Vintage-Telecaster-Tele-PICKUPS-52-/200551509733?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2eb1cd2ee5

There American made by Fender and would be the stock replacements.

Thanks for info guys. I figured Fender would not run a special production line just to turn out piickups to put in little boxes, not guitars, but you never know. I am curious if different boxed up pickups are MIM, or MIA, or both, or all MIA.

And the '52 vintage on the ones I've got my eyes on. Just gotta kick this coughing crud I have right now.
