I saw someone here had gotten a Ron Kirn Pine Tele earlier this year and I thought it was quite beautiful. Here are some pics of his work.

It got me thinking about building a pine body from scratch. I was buying a guitar a few month's ago and that person also let me try his custom pine tele and it felt pretty nice. I've never built a body from scratch before and a Tele seems simpler than a strat (no pesky contours). Anyway I got a pine table for free on craigslist yesterday and the top is just the right thickness for a body. I'm thinking of cutting out a body or two from it. I don't think the wood is as old as the wood Ron is using, but with the right finish I think it might look quite pretty. I'm going to cut out a blank and sand the top and back and I'll put up some pics to get some opinions. Could be a fun project. If it comes out nice enough, I may even make 2 and try to trade one for a neck.

Thanks for the tip BCB, but I'm looking to build one on the cheap and you can't beat free for the body.
