Hi, everyone.

I heard, that Fender has made a Waylon Jennings tribute tele a few years ago, and i want to know more about that guitar, like what kinda pickups it had, and what exactly did it look like. There's no pictures about it anywhere.

Thanks. I tried to search for other posts about the guitar, but the search didn't find anything.

That looks just like the guitar Waylon used in rehersal. Now that's a nice guitar. :)

His son, Shooter Jennings, uses the original of his Dad's.

If i remember correctly, Waylon had three guitars. A broadcaster, and two telecasters. The rehersal guitar was a telecaster, and the fully leather covered guitar he mostly used with white pickguard was a telecaster, but the other fully leather covered guitar had black pickguard, and that is a Broadcaster, and he gave it to Reggie Young, and Reggie sold it.

I believe that is now in the hands of Keith Urban. There is a great shot of it in the current edition of Guitar Aficiondo magazine...

Now, that is the guitar Waylon used mostly on his tours. The first Waylon guitar i've ever seen was that same guitar. I heard Shooter uses Waylons rehersal guitar as well, like i have already told. Correct, if i was wrong.

Waylon had many of these, at least 5 vintage models and a few CS guitars. One of his last was a '53 Esquire with a Tele logo installed. It had unwired up EMG's in it. Waylon was not playing in his final years and just held a guitar while on stage.

..and a quick google resulted in this :

"Waylon had around 6 or 7 leather Telecasters including his Fender CS signature model. His first one and main one was a 53 his band bought for him back in Phoenix. It stayed stock all through the 60's and 70's and didn't get changed much until the 80's. In the 80's he changed the bridge from a 3 saddle to 6 saddle (70's type). He also cut the lips off of the bridge and added the EMG pickups which he kept on until he stopped using the guitar. Also during the 70's he had a couple back up Tele's with leather covers. Most notably on the Dukes of Hazzard opening credits. The leather pattern was different and he had black pickguards on these.

In the 90's Fender made him some Tele's which he had covered in his leather covers. These had 52RI necks with Scruggs tuners on the low E, cut down bridges and EMG pickups.

His CS Sig. model originally had Hipshot extender keys to lower the low E but he changed them to Scruggs. They had Texas Special pickups in them with 6 saddle American Standard bridges and an inset leather patch on the top. These were bound in white on black bodies. His original Tele's were white, natural and yellow/blonde."

So many guitars? Wow. I have seen his white guitar with black pickguard on a Mental Revenge video on YouTube. If he didn't play in his final years, then why did he strum his Telecaster correctly on his Never Say Die concert in Ryman?
