I have a chance to pick up an `08 Am. Standard Tele with a lot of mods made to it but I have a question about the necks from that year. Did they make that Tele with a highly polished fret board like the Strats or did they come with a satin finish fret board like the Highway 1 ?

Maple fingerboard American Standard Teles from 2008 or later should have the same gloss fingerboard finish as the Strats. Earlier models had the satin finish fingerboard.

Hi JPD,

Starting in '08, the Standards have the buffed fret boards on the maple. :)

Edit:
Sorry John C, looks like you beat me to it, I didn't see your post when I replied. :)

Thats what I thought. Someone advertized a Telecaster as an Am. Standard and it was a Highway 1 all along. The body was buffed to a high gloss and the neck plate was changed to one with the Fender Corona logo engraved on it. The neck looked just like my Highway 1 so I ran the serial numbers and sure enough that`s just what it is. The satin finish fret board gave it away. Thanks for the info....

Nothing wrong with those necks that I've experienced.

Your right...but the seller tried to tell me the Highway 1 was an American Standard and he even changed the neck plate on the back to one with the Fender logo engraved on it. Highway Ones just have a plain plate with no engraving and that made me suspicious along with the unpolished fret board. In any event, I turned it down and went to my local music store and got an American Deluxe Telecaster. This guitar looks and sounds great. I`ll post a picture of it soon.
Thanks to all for your help.

This is the Deluxe Tele I got instead of the one I had questions about.
