Well I've been playing bass for almost 5 years. I wanted to pick up a guitar to fiddle around on. I think Tele's look the coolest and I know the slab body won't bother me. I have a budget of about $250 and I'm kinda leaning towards Billy Joe's tone in the opening lick to "welcome to paradice".

Thanks guys.

I bought one of these a few years ago and like it quite well. And it also happens to be reasonably priced.

I've been checking out the new Squier 69 Tele Thinlines and they are extremely good guitars for the money-head and shoulders better than many costing a whole lot more.I believe they're in the range you're looking for.

You might also look st the used gear at guitar center. They typically have a couple tele's around here. A couple of year old standard tele used should be pretty close to your price range.

I agree with including the 'pre-owned' market during your search. Sometimes you can find some really nice and seldom used guitars out there if you look hard enough.

In agreement with looking at a "step up" used guitar.

There are some which are scarcely played. Also look for demos at GC and Sam Ash, etc. Also, just-discontinued models.

Best of fortune.

Right time of year to look...folks who traded up during Christmas will off-load their older gear. Folks who got a guitar for Christmas who find they don't want to play it will also off-load...some deals to be found in the next 2-4 weeks. 8)
