I never saw Eric using an ESP guitar!

Image

This is a very old photo which dates from 1987, showing Clapton playing a Sonic Blue ESP Telecaster. Yet I saw different shots of him with a wide assortment of Fender Telecasters (including a 70's notchless model in Olympic White), but this photo is one of the very rare occasions Eric used an ESP.

I believe this ESP Telecaster was owned by Ronnie Wood.

I know this is a Fender board (I have a Vintage Tele Custom) .... but I started on stage with a PV T-60 and still love it. I talked to Roy Nichols who was lead guitarist in Merle Haggards 'Strangers' lots of times back in the 70's -80's and talked in depth with him....he liked his T-60 as well (played it for years !)
Just fyi :)

Sorry for ressurecting that old thread.

Apparently this ESP Tele belonged to Keith Richards.

Keith's looks black rather than Sonic Blue, but I'm
sure he had others laying around.

I believe the guitar belongs to Ronnie Wood. He also used to endorse ESP's and seems I remember seeing this before and Ronnie loaned Eric the guitar so he could sit in, seems this might have been at Ronnie Scotts. Of course my memory isn't the greatest, but I am pretty sure on this one.

This is an oldddd post but my first guitar was a 1980 PV T-60,it was pricey back then, I still have it and love it. But its the heaviest guitar I had ever played. It also had very cool wiring, even had a phase shift switch.

The black guitar Keef plays was an early Ronnie Wood signature prototype as the SS pickup config and 3-saddle bridge suggest. Ronnie's guitar features a chrome-covered humbucker in the rhythm position and a modern bridge with stainless steel block saddles.

That's such a great photo! Of course it's hilarious that Eric was playing an ESP, but I'm also impressed by the quality of the photo. Just think about it. Someone had to shoot that with a film camera in 87, which means they knew what they were doing in that lighting.

Do a You Tube search for the Blind Faith concert in Hyde Park, he plays a 3-tone Tele Special with a Strat neck for the entire concert. Really tasty playing, too.
