A few years ago I stopped by the G.C. on my way to a gig. usually I jsut pick up a couple extra sets of strings, see what's new, that kind of thing. This time Chopper, my bud that works there as the guitar section manager tells me to hang on, he just got a couple new tele's in. So a few minutes later, he comes out with an FSR tele, natural ash, maple fretboard, torti pickguard, and heavy as hell. I was really surprised with how heavy it was, it felt like a LP hanging on your shoulder. And I'll be damned if it didn't ring like a bell unplugged. Plugged into the Blues jr. that was sitting on the floor it was even better. Needless to tell anyone here I bought it after playing it for 5 minutes, took it with me and played it that night and haven't regretted it for a minute. Now I'm wondering just what the heck she is; what pickups are in there mostly. not that I'm going to change 'em, i just want to know so I can put the same thing or something really close into my sons' mexi-tele. he swears that now that he's heard mine at a gig, he doesn't like the sound of his nearly as much. Anyone have any info on how to find out what's in there? I've always played a stock 74 strat, a stock 88 superstrat (thanks guys for the help on that one) a stock 82 LP, and a stock 6150. I figured that if your rig didn't sound good, you had the wrong stuff. Anyways, thanks for reading, i guess I made this longer than it really needed to be...

Well, I do know that the Strat counterpart to your FSR model came with Tex Mex pickups so quite possibly, yours did too.

The easiest way to tell is to look at the bottom of either pickup. If they have a bar magnet across the polepieces, they are NOT Tex Mexs and are the usual, generic OEM stuff. If the polepieces themselves are indeed the magnets, then most likely they ARE Tex Mexs.

And although you didn't ask, the body of your guitar is Northern Ash.

Does anyone know the pups in the current GC FSR '52 RI clone? I just got one today and its gorgeous but was wondering what pups were in there. They should have an official spec somewhere on all the sweet FSRs. thanks!

Someone else on the forum called it that. Here are some bad pics, its all I could get tonight. It is like the '52 RI Butterscotch Blonde including the 3 brass saddle bridge, but with reverse electronic panel. Its amazing and I can't find any info anywhere on the net!

Oh the Butterscotch. I believe that is the same spec as the FSR Silver and Copperbursts they have had as well.

When I heard something '52 I thought of the OV pups.

These go for 500 so doubtful they have the OV. I'm quite sure they have the standard ceramic pups. You could take a few screws out of the pickguard and lift it up to look under the neck pup for two bar mags, those are ceramic.

that's what I thought. I'll check what's in there next string change. Did.nt think they were stock the way they sound. Really has some serious spank. I gotta admit, the FSR stuff coming out of mexico is really kickin butt. I'm currently in the market for a black maple board strat, Maybe they'll have a mexicaster FSR somewhere in Seattle.... good thing it's christmas time!
