I got my highway one Tele the start of this january(sunburst w/ a maple fretboard) and i just cant put it down! Everything about it is great, the neck, the electronics, the pickups. It came set up very well, the action is fine and the intonation was bang on.

HOWEVER, the finish over the paint on the body is UNBELIEVABLY thin, it's already starting to wear off in a few places on mine. (the place where the lead goes behind the strap, where the strap rubs off the body and where i rest my palm just over the bridge. I do happen to like it though, so i suppose this is a bonus for me :)!!

Overall, a fantastic guitar and a worthwhile buy for any guitarist!

Ditto on the HW1 Tele love. Got mine at the end of December (honey blonde with maple fretboard) and can't stop playing it. The nitro finish is great and the thing just sounds awesome. I like the thinner nitro finish not just b/c of the sound, but also b/c it will age as I play and handle it, giving it a personal touch over the years. Get one, you won't be sorry.

Have to agree with crazychester and richmurray, sound and play ability are great. The finish on mine isn’t wearing off, but is polished were my arm and hand make contact, I like that the wear marks are all mine. BTW, I have a wine red HW1 and after playing a few other guitars, including MIM teles, MIM & US strats, a Godin, the smooth satin neck on my HW1 is definitely the best.

I have an 07 HWY1 (upgrade) in Daphne Blue with a maple neck and I gotta tell ya. I am soooo pleased with it. I really do love the thin finish and the smooth neck. I was thinking about a 52 R/I, but after playing it, I found the finish on the neck was way to sticky. So I went with the HWY1, I added a Joe Barden bridge plate with compensated brass saddles, the HWY1 really sings a beautiful tone. The upgrade is very noticable as well. The p/u's sound amazing. The frets are finished really nice as well, very high quality. I really don't think you'd be dissapointed, but my best advice is to go and play one for yourself.

Yea, what Nic said. He was instrumental (no pun intended :lol: ) in me choosing the HW1 and he's absolutly right. The quality is top shelf and it's so smooooooth. I haven't done the upgrades to mine that Nic has done, but that's not far off. If you play several different Tele's, you'll see that the HW1 is amazing and I can't believe they're only askin about $750 for it. If you have questions about the thinner nitro C finish on the HW1, just check out the finish on the new American Standard. No more poly. See what I mean, the HW1 is a great axe at a great price point.

Finally responding to Pandcity;

I was sort of fortunate that my local shop was having a sale, sooo, I was able to pick up my HW1 for $600, I'm not sure how much the upgraded MIM''s, RI's were, I only tried an MIM standard. Have to admit the other thing that influenced, besides what you have read others say about the HW1, is that I've always wanted an American Fender, and this was the least expensive new one I could find at the time.

Man, I wish I had the choice of the Daphne Blue, really nice with the Barden bridge and brass saddles, I'm debating to have the bridge upgrade done to mine.

Nic, I undestand the benefit of the compensated brass saddles, but what benefit does the Joe Barden bridge plate add to the mix over the stock Fender bridge plate. It appears from the photo that the "lower" portion of the brige plate is cut away a bit. Is that to allow picking a little closer to the bridge pickup? Or is that just a reflection on the JB Bridge?

Yes, there is a cut-away section on the bridge plate, that is so your finger doesn't hit the plate and you can get closer to the pickup, and the plate is held on with 5 screws as opposed to three (which is stock on the HWY1)), giving the plate more security and less vibration. The Joe Barden plate is slightly thicker than a stock Fender plate as well (better sound). The five screw mounting is now stock on the new American Standard. Maybe eventually Fender will change to the five screws on all american models. 8) thx. check it out www.joebarden.com
