Looks like he did the right thing and revised the description, maybe he just didn't know. It does look pretty good for a fake though....

Some things off the top of my head:

-String trees are wrong. Proper guitar only uses one and its not even that type of string tree.

-Bridge plate should be stamped Fender below the pickup.

-Ships with 6 saddle bridge

-Does not ship in a styrofoam carton!

-Sticker on the picguard should be an American Standard sticker and not mention anything about a bass! Hilarious.

-Back neck plate is completely wrong.

-Body wood is low grade crap. Poplar?

-Controls are routed on body crooked.

-Number of frets is wrong

There is more. 8)

Gotcha. Still learning. Like I said, I'd rather buy brand new, but still good to know the difference between a real and a fake

That's a good list Nevin1985, good eye. If i could add a couple of things. The decal on the front of the headstock is too small (fake), and if it were real should be silver lettering for an Am Std. Also, if you look at the photo of the SN on the back of the headstock, even though it is washed out, you can see that the number spacing is inconsistent and each is an individual decal (fake).

Lovejoy, the original ad was pulled. The link that you provided is a re-listing that is more appropriate to what the guitar actually is, doesn't claim American Standard on new ad. In fact, he says that he isn't sure where the guitar is made, as he bought from Asian supplier. :)

I should have explained. In the UK its illegal to sell a fake regardless if you disclose the info in the ad. It comes under The UK's Trademark Act 1994.

The seller could be busted by UK trading standards. Fender UK work very closely with this agencys

But if the seller wants to take the risk, then I thought it best they know the score

memo to self : I must remember I'm on a USA site lol !

Wow, that sounds serious, I had no idea. I have seen ads before that looked like real vintage "relics", and were clear about being "home-made" to look authentic, but then the ads ended early. That might be the reason, thanks for the info. :)
