I know its a cover that goes over the bridge!
But what are the advantages/disadvantages of using it?

I suppose if you are a lazy player you can rest your hand on it. Also, it probably tells someone who knows that you have the vintage rather than modern bridge. Otherwise, I think its just retro decoration.
