I have a unfinished mahogany tele body that I recieved from a guitar parts supplier instead of the unfinished mahogany strat body I ordered.

As you might imagine I was dissapointed but started thinking maybe I was ment to be. I have never owned a tele.

Here is the problem and question. In looking at the body I noticed the neck pocket is somewhat canted down, away from the player. At first I thought "its a defective body", then I noticed the string holes from the back of the body are aligned but also aligned in the same direction as the neck, canted down. Also the switch, and pot slot is somewhat canted down.

Is it normal on a tele for the neck, etc to be canted down away from the centerline axis of the body?

Hi oneal lane,

Are you saying that if the neck were installed, it would angle towards the back of the body in the same way that a Les Paul neck angles from it's body? If so, that doesn't sound right for a Tele or Strat to me. I'm looking at my '09 Am Std Tele and the neck looks parallel to the body. Not sure what you are saying about the string holes in the body. :? Also, the neck pocket is a different shape for a Tele than a Strat. Would the same neck fit either a Strat or a Tele body?

shim,

If you were holding the guitar body in your lap like you were playing it, the neck pocket would be angled down toward the floor.

Everything routed or drillled on this body is ever-so-slightly angled in the same direction. It is though the body was placed in the jig, not exactly correctly, and it's a little out of phase.

My instinct is that it's a bad body, but I don't know everything.

Thanks

What kind of bridge are you going to use on the body? I know that the neck pocket must be tilted for some bridges. But as you say the string holes and switch holes are also off, so I guess it`s something wrong with the whole thing :(

I am just going to send it back. I am not really a tele guy, and had ordered a strat body and recieved the tele by mistake. I toyed with the idea of keeping it and building a HH tele for my brother who loves teles.

Thanks guys for your insight.
