I was/am pretty much in the same boat as you, except I've owned both and know there's a drastic difference. The Tele is my favorite of all guitars, barr none. However, as a first guitar I went with the Strat.

IMO, the Strat is just more versatile and this is why I bought it first. If I'm only going to have one guitar for awhile I wanted the one that would let me cover more ground.

But, as I said, the Tele is my favorite. Might not have as many p/u's and positions at the Strat, but the three it has are all killer, especially the middle.

I bought the new American Standard Strat and plan to get the Tele to match it. Pretty much the same neck feel on both so I can easily go from one to the other.

Get a Tele and get as good a Tele as you can afford. You wont regret it.

Both the tele and the jaguar are beautiful guitars.. but I have never tried a jaguar. ive got a tele and i love it.. i think that you should try out both guitars and see what sound u like the most.

the only thing I miss on my tele is a bigspy arm or something, otherwise it's great.

I got the strat first, then the tele (then the casino, then the LP, then the ric, then the sg ...). I've never played a Jag so I don't have an opinion there, but the tele is a great compliment to the strat, they both make sounds the other can't. Both my tele and strat are Am Dlx with the "C" neck and maple but they do have a different feel so expect some differences. I do like the strat better and play it more but there are times when only a tele will do!

i just bought a classic player baja tele after having a strat and i have to say i prefer the tones comin outa my tele - there just beautiful

i think however it is personal choice as to which way you go, after having a go on a couple of guitars just go with your gut feeling

- follow your heart, not your brain

Add early Satus Quo to the ist of tele players.
Alot of ppl say Strats are best because of versatility. Two different guitars makes you versatile!, and why not own each of the two all-time most loved electrics :D

Thanks,

I got it put together for me to replicate the one used by Eric Clapton at the Blind Faith concert in Hyde part.

I bought a standard MIM tele 2 years after I got my powerhouse Strat, and I love both of them. I don't feel any difference in comfort with the body or the neck on either one. All it boils down to is which one do I feel like playing today-strat or tele?
