:) hello, im new here and i have a question.
im shopping for a tele. but im not sure which one to buy. im stuck between a us 52 reissue, a baja, or an 08 american standard ash tele.
im looking for that old classic country twang.
im a little concerned about the frets on the 52 ri being too small as i like to bend the heck out of the strings.
any input would be much appreciated.
thanks

Welcome to the forum dirtyoldbanjoman,

The Baja has medium frets and a flatter fingerboard then the '52.
Best advice is to try out as many as you can.
Also how much can you spend on a Tele ?

Good luck with the search,

Peter

HIghway one Texas Telecaster. Big ole frets, country twang, made in USA, the whole shabang. Played one at my music shop and they sound fantastic for what they are. Look into that and let me know how it goes.

By the way, welcome to the forum, you can learn a whole lot outa these guys!

The American Standard Tele and the HWY 1 have my votes, I dig the 9.5 neck radius with the Jumbo Frets, but most of all, my favorite feature is the satin finish on the neck, non-sticky and very smooth. My advice, is to play as many as you can and then you'll have a really good idea of what you like. 8)Image

Try a hwy 1 tele, it sounds like you. The finish will wear off though, so it might not be something you want it to do. Just a little peice of mind. 8)

Nope Nope Nope, go with an American deluxe. I have an 02 deluxe and it is great for classic sounding twang, but if you want areal raw sound go with a maple neck, and crank up the pickups!!! That works good for me!

ok, my budget will allow for a slightly used 52 ri tele or a new american ash or baja.
i like the highwayone texas but i dont like the satin finish.
does anyone with a 52 ri have any problems with the smaller frets :?:

Good luck on your search. Since Tele's vary widely, even with the same modes, I'd try out a bunch. My advice is to go to Guitarcenter or some equally huge guitar store, and try them all. You may want to buy elsewhere, where the service is better! You may find a less expensive model is perfect for you. I did that recently and found that I really liked the Esquire reissue. Its a Mexi, but the workmanship and sound was really good. Plenty twangy, by the way. Basically, its a Tele with one pickup, but they get a lot out of that one pickup. Its my regular gigging axe right now. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't spent some time trying everything at the store.
