I can't think of anyone in the history of Music who could out play the late great Danny Gatton, or would even try to.. I think it is seriously fkn great that fender makes a Danny Gatton Model, I'll never be able to afford one probably but at least I know they know what's up..

Can't think of one now myself!
One of only a handful of musicians that I associate with the Telecaster and maybe not all fingers on that hand either!

Tragic loss.

True T.. A tragic loss indeed. Danny Gatton made a album with Joey Defrancesco called Relentless back in the day which should be in everyones collection as it is music perfection, & really, all of his releases are pretty much equally as good but this does have Joey D, and he is without question the best key player alive.. I had a chance to see him live with John Mclaughlin about a decade ago in Chicago and ever since then i've been hooked to his play style which is totally beyond professional.. they are in a realm of their own.

It wouldn't let me post the video directly to the forum from the way I use to do it, If anyone could show me an example, I'd appreciate it.... This video link is to youtube and is of Danny Gatton and gives a Neck View of his playing.. Very Unique Perspective that I think many here would enjoy.

Best show I ever saw. Danny Gatton at a club called the Lonestar Roadhouse in NYC in 1991.

The Danny Gatton model was initally offered with Joe Barden pickups. Later, Danny switched to Bill Lawrence pickups, which he still uses.

Let's switch this around to read, "Later, FENDER switched to Bill Lawrence pickups, which THEY still use on the Gatton Tele."

I love my 94 Gatton Signature Custom Shop Tele. It is the guitar of kings. Of course, it is one of the ones with Barden pickups.....

You guys want an inexpensive Danny tone trick? Danny would take Fender Dynamaxx strings (aka 250's) 10-46, but replace the .017 G string with a .015. Your local Fender string dealer should be able to sell you a single 015 string for about a dollar.

It really makes those triple-stop oblique bends and pedal steel tricks easier. I can now hear that lighter G in Danny's playing. The 10-13-15 string guage combination are the same guages that came with Fender's "Rock & Roll" set back in the 60's and 70's.
