Hey,

I've got an AM standard telecaster and i was actually thinking of getting an epiphone les paul for its humbuckers. But since the blacktop came out, i'm considering selling my AM standard and buying a blacktop instead and at the same time, i don't have to buy an epiphone. Any opinion/suggestions??

Thanks!

It all depends on how much you want a Tele with dual humbuckers. If that is ultimately the guitar you want then the Blacktop might be the best fit for you. OR you could just modify the Am Std, since it is a superior guitar so far as build and make. I'd skip the Epiphone altogether, but that is just me.

Simple solution, keep your current guitar, buy the other two aswell.

I agree with Black Cat Bone...You could probably mod the am std. with some good humbuckers and whatever other equipment you'll need to change, for less thatn the price of a new guitar, and then you'll have a nice mia tele with the tones you're looking for.

Definately keep your tele.

you can always put one of these in the bridge to get some of that humbucker tone:

I played a Blacktop....not too impressed. Your American Standard is a much better guitar (imho). You will kick yourself if you get rid of it....

I've played some blacktop tele's and I actually like them. At one point I was thinking I'd like the two humbuckers better than the single coils. But to be honest, I think the standard sounds better. I think you get a better range of tones. Mainly the higher end if you want it. And the blacktops just seem sort of "generic" sounding. Now, I will say, that is with minimal playing plugged in. And more than likely you can wring the tones you want out of it. I like the rosewood neck also. And I like the countoured body. Although in the end I think I like the normal ole slab body better. Which is why I'm now in the hunt for either a mexi or american standard. Or even better the 60's classic.

But really, I think for the price, it's a good guitar. However, I think whatever you think you can get from the black top, more than likely you can get it from your standard, by just figuring out different settings on your amp and what not. Maybe turning down the tone a little instead of running it full out. It might not be a shredders guitar, and maybe I'm full of hot air, but I think you might regret it.

I think you'll regret selling the American Standard.

You can try a pickup swap or just save up for a humbucker equipped guitar...

Do not sell your am std as others have said
you will regret . If you were looking at an
epiphone 300-350 $ the Blacktop is what
like 400-450$ why would you need to sell
the MIA TO Finance in my opinion it would be worth
it too take a little extra time to save for the
blacktop then you have two teles with completely
different tones
