Is there a way to tell by the SN if the guitar is in fact a Deluxe Model or not. If not what can I look for on the guitar that will signify it as a Deluxe Model.

Hi clempfert,

Usually the serial number should start with a "D" to indicate a Deluxe. Example, DZ2xxxxxx would be a Deluxe 2002-2003 model. But, there are some (older) Deluxe that don't have a D at the beginning. :)

Just for posterities sake, the older American Deluxes that don't have the "D" in the serial number should be from 2000; there was some kind of mix-up that was corrected fairly early in the year.

Also, Fender has changed their serial number prefix system as of this year; the 2010 American Deluxes will no longer have "D" as the first letter of their serial number (the exception being the first run of "2010-spec" models that were actually done in late 2009 and carry "DZ9XXXXXX" serial numbers).

Thanks John C, I thought that I remembered that some Deluxes didn't have a D, and some Am Stds got a D, both by mistake, wasn't sure when that happened. :)
