I am thinking about purchasing a '72 Road Worn Tele Custom and would like to hear some thoughts on it from those who have played or own one. Also, is it true that fender is not going to be making these past this year?

Don't know hoe long Fender is makin these.

I have the NON road worn RI of this model which is a 2002. Its my main gigging guitar so its getting road worn the proper way.

They are great guitars but they come with 250k pots on the Wide Range Humbucker which doesn't do it justice at all. Stick in a 500k or a 1meg to your liking and you have a great guitar.

I still can't get over how versatile these things are. The combo of having a humbucker and a single coil is made even better by having separate controls for each so blending can be fun and just about any tone can be achieved with a bit of concentration.

Highly recommended!

CC

Thanks for the info. I'd like to have one of these for the versatility that you mentioned, but I was looking at the Road Worn model for the nitro finish and the aged look. Some people don't get the Road Worn's, but in my view they are for player's that want the vintage look and feel without having to fork over the big bucks. Pretty much everybody complains about Fender using 250k pots in these and the Deluxe's, so it's really a mystery why Fender doesn't just start putting 500k's in them. A buddy of mine has one of the FSR Deluxes in arctic white and I think it sounds fine, especially through my Fender Super, but I get where a 500k or 1meg pot would help, especially in the neck position, but I have played many, many Gibsons over the years that were way darker and muddier sounding than these Wide Range pickups with the stock 250k pot's.
