Hi guys,

Pretty stoked about my new Fender Lite Ash and would like to know all about it. It was made in Korea and I presume it was made in 2007 because the Serial is 070761xx (I put in the xx, there are real numbers there). Fender's Dating your Fender page doesn't have anything for Serial Numbers starting with 0, let alone guitars Made In Korea, closest thing is Japan. So, how do I find out my guitar's age?

Thanks for any help, fellahs! 8)

Remove the neck from the body and look for stamped dates on the butt
of the neck or in the neckpocked.

Hi, can't really help much but I have one of these also that I bought around August '07 and the serial no. begins with 0702xxxx. I've always assumed that it was made in 2007.

Thank you lostindesert and Mark!

Mark, is your neck "capped" with birdseye maple or is it a solid piece? How do you like the guitar? So far, I'm loving it! 8)

Hi, yes, I saw your other thread re the neck. I'm a thousand miles away from my lite ash at the moment and your pic has thrown me somewhat. From memory, I'm pretty sure that the neck on mine is also birdseye maple (along with the head) but yes the fingerboard is a seperate piece of wood.

If I remember when I get back home - probably around the end of this week - I'll have a good look and let you know for sure.

I like mine a lot too. I bought a Spalted Maple Tele (Korean) - 2 x Duncan humbuckers, ultra thin through neck and spalted maple on mahogany contoured body - at the same time which is a lot of fun also.

I have the Koa Tele (Korean as well) and have had the same situation with the serial number. It's given me reason to pick up the guitar more often. The Seymour Duncan pickups make a huge difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong Mark, but isn't the birdseye maple the fingerboard, the thinner piece with the dots, you can see on my picture? The neck and head are regular maple. If your fingerboard doesn't have the dots and the rest of the neck does, we have interchanged out of place wood!

Hi, I'm saying that, from memory, on mine both the neck and fingerboard are birdseye maple. The spec on Fenders site confirms what I'm saying (click the link then the 'specs' button):

http://www.fender.co.uk/products//searc ... 0265102521

You'll see that both the neck and fingerboard are listed seperately as birdseye maple.

Gotcha! Hmmm, why the hell would the wood look so different, if the fingerboard and neck are, indeed, the same birdseye maple? I sure am curious to see that crossview picture of your Lite Ash upon your return! 8)

Actually, looking at your neck pic again, I'm not so sure that it isn't birdseye maple, albeit not highly 'figured' (if that's the right word).

On the link I provided yesterday, if you scroll down you'll see the different colour choices. If you click on each one they become the main guitar image. If you then click the 'enlarge image' button for each one you'll see how much variation there is in the birdseye. Look at the headstocks as well as the fingerboards.

As I said I'll have a good look at mine when I get back.

Hi, I'm back, here are a couple of images of my Lite Ash neck. They are not as figured as I remembered but it is definitely birdseye maple. It doesn't show in the photo as well as it does in person - so to speak. As I said in my last post I think yours is birdseye but it's not as obvious as the fingerboard. My fingerboard is also much more detailed.

Anyway here are the pics ('scuse the mess in the background):

Thanks Mark and welcome back! :)

Isn't that weird, I have a clear 1/3 inch tint or something for my finger board and you don't. Yet, they have the same first numbers in serial and are both Korean. I wish a fender expert could shed some light on why these two same guitars, year, are DIFFERENT.

Thanks again!
