I have an American Standard Tele from the late 80's/early 90's. It is actually labelled on the head as a "Stratocaster". Has anyone else seen this? Will this make the guitar more of a collector's item?

Did you buy it new?
If you bought it second hand I'd say its more likely that a previous owner just changed the neck.

Likely to hurt the value as no one will know just what you have there.

I bought it used on 1990. the only thing that isn't original is the pickguard. It's all tele including the neck. Just the label is wrong. I'm trying to post a pic but having a hard time.

ive got two guitar books with the same pic of a telecaster deluxe

two humbuckers and a strat tremelo. it has a strat neck looks to be oneof those big cbs necks. but this one says telecaster.

it says avalable from 1973 to 1982. it has a contoured body like a strat .large pickguard two tone two volume controls toggle on the upper horn.

does that sound like what you have?

both books have the same pic and info.

probably a cbs concoction to go after the gibson market.

just checked sweetwater and musicians friend they carry the current version of this its identical to the photos in my book so it is entirely possible someone picked up a neck from the wrong pile. or one that was mislabled.

Anything is possible but...
I would think the folks that work at Fender would know the difference between a tele and strat neck regardless of which pile or marking it had on it.

Would still like a pic of the guitar under question.

Ahhhhh....due to the neck pocket differences, I didn't think the necks are that interchangeable?

Couple good pictures of the decal and that area would answer the question

Yes Strats and Teles share the same neck pocket width and depth, but the ends of the neck are very different and make switching incompatible.

"The heel shape of Strat® necks is rounded at the end, Teles® are squared. Strat® necks will fit Tele® bodies but show a gap at the corners. Tele® necks may not intonate on a Strat® body without neck pocket modification."

your right about the shape but they can be switched. although i can agree that this would make it easy to tell if its either a strat neck in the wrong place or a mislabeled one. again the one i mentioned thats on sweetwater and musicians friend comes with a strat headstock..............
