I use Dean Markley blue steels (Probably the only person who does) 9 - 46. They're bassy and mellow.

They came to my attention when Jeff Buckley used them for everything he did.

I use them on my fender tele, Tokai SX and my Ibanez RG2550MZ.

Great strings are Blue Steels. AND YOU GET STICKERS TOO!

How do you like the pure nickels?

And what is this I hear about the Fender pure nickels corroding quickly and feeling like barbed wire shortly after putting them on. I would think plated strings might exfoliate and get rough, but not solid nickel windings.

Anybody know about this?

Which brand pure nickels do you use?

I use Dean Markley Blue Steels as well and love them! They also seem to last longer than other strings I have used. Out of the pure nickel strings, I have used GHS Nickel Rockers and DR Pure Blues. Pure nickel strings generally corrode faster, but have a warmer, rounder tone which might be nice where a brighter sound is not wanted.

I use D'addario EXL 10-46 on most of my guitars. But, right now I'm trying a set of 9.5 - 42 on my Baja. They play quite comfortably and I can't really hear much of a difference in tone compared to the 10's. I can't decide if I should try them on my Strat or not. I'll let you know.

Hi Peacefield D'Addario 8-38,9-42,10-46 XL nickel wound strings should give you all the twang you want and they stay bright longer than most.

Based on this info above I think I'll put the pure nickel Fender and Dean Markley Jimi Hendrix pure nickel "nines" on some ice picky guitars and get a set of D'darrio "nines" nickel plated steel for my new Black Top strat, which is not a ice picky guitar.

I have a strat with a maple board and CS Texas Specials that is ice picky, kind of like it though. I'll probably try a set of pure nickels on it and see how it sounds. Also my new MIM Standard tele is on the ice picky side, unlike my Nashville Tele, and a set of pure nickels might tame down the hot ceramic pickups in the MIM standard tele.

Put Dean Markley Classic 10s on my Nashville Tele 2 weeks ago, they aren't as bright as the Fender Bullets they replaced, but there is more sustaine.
My 2cents worth,

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's. I used to hate Ernie Ball, but now they're all I use for guitar, besides Elixir Light's for my acoustic, of course... It's weird how preferences can shift like that..
