I'm casually searching for a made in the USA Tele w/dual humbuckers. It doesn't look like one is available new in 2010, and I can't afford the originals. Has Fender released any in recent years that are made in the USA?

All arguments about quality/price/sound aside, I try to send my $$ to artisans in my country when I can...they are increasingly rare these days in manufacturing...

Thanks.

No. But you can always buy an USA made one and install humbuckers on it. Or search in ebay for those Double Fat Teles from not that long ago, 90's and 2000's, which can't be very expensive.

If I remember correctly there was a US Fender Special Run of the 72 Custom a while back and if I'm totally not dreaming this our very own Brad Traweek has one of them.

Apart from that there isn't any currently as Iago says. Still I recommend highly any of the Classic Series 70's RI Teles. They are great!

The last run of double humbucker Teles (outside of the reissues) were the American Series HH Teles that ran from mid-2003 until sometime in early 2006 (I think).

These do pop up from time-to-time for about the same price as a used American Series from the same year.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to sit back and wait for something like the 2010 "Classic Series '72 Telecaster® Thinline" that is made in the USA. I'm in no hurry, and have a long list of instruments that are on my wish list.

Thanks again.

According to Vintage Guitar mag price guide import '72 Tele Thinlines are still made, they are 2 h-bucker semi-hollow F-hole guitars and go used for between $550 and $600 for an '88-'05 model.

The Classic Series models are manufactured in Mexico and Japan.

Fender has introduced a series of American Factory Special Runs made by the Custom Shop in 2005.

go look at the john5 tele and the john5 squier.
both of those should fit the bill rather nicely.

I just bought one of these US FSR 72 Customs from MF(I think), nothing on the site or the guitar says it's US made except for a sticker on the pickguard. The serial number is on the neck plate and starts with an "R".

Can anyone tell me exactly what I've got? The body finish is heavily swirled front and back, and has a very heavy chemical smell. The finish is very dull.
Thanks - Bobby

Early Steely Dan recordings featured Denny Dias playing tricked out double 'bucker Tele's like this one :

I heard from Fender about my Tele Custom question above.

It's an FSR American Vintage ‘72 Telecaster® Custom, they never answered my question about when it was made though.

Do it yourself. I just dropped some TV Jones HB's into an American special(along with warmoth pickguard) and it is awesome.

I just purchased a used one from Musiciansfriend in hopes that it was American vs. the MIM. I'll let you know, when it comes in, what I find, but it too had the "Made in the USA" sticker on it.

Usually on the head stock it will say where it was made around the serial number. But I heard there was a FSR 72 Tele custom series in 2005 that were made in America.

If the FSR aren't made in the US, can anyone tell me why brand new they're $300 more than the regular 72 RI that are MIM?
