Currently I have a 1990 tele made in mexico. I was trying some strats. down at the local music store and found that none of them sounded as good as my Tele. There has been no mods. to my Tele. Most of the Strats were made in Korea and a few were made in the USA. Any advice! Also I am using a Hotrod Deluxe Texas Edition as an Amp.

Maybe you are just a Tele player deep down. I'm kinda the same way. I love the way my Strats play and feel and also the tones that come from them for playing certain types of music, but when it comes to playing clean rock or blues through a tube amp, I also favor a Tele. I would hate to give up either.

I am the same way, that bridge pup makes way too much of a differance! Sitting down teles are just great, but for standing-up-just-found-a-weird-urge-to-hop-on-and-off-this-here-amp type stuff get a strat. Prolly what the VG is for. Find a strat with texas pups or something and see what it does. I bet theres a strat that can almost compare to your tele, just look harder!

You can never have too many guitars. That said, I'd suggest that you go with what sounds good to you. Also what sounds good through your gear. Fender has many good sounding Mexi products.

Why fix it if it ain't broke. Be happy you don't have GAS. I love my teles more than my strats. If I didn't think I needed the strats (American Deluxe Ash & Clapton) I would be 100% teles.

Hi,

I currently own a 2004 Mexican Standard Tele... and I have the same problem (?), I try everything else and keep coming back to the Mex Tele! Nothing seems to compare. I played an American Strat... liked the Mex Tele better (fingernails kept wrapping on the centre pickup) ... I bought a Hagstrom Les Paul copy (lovely guitar) and 2 days later it was on ebay for sale... turns out I spent the entire weekend worshipping my Tele! Hmm, guess I must be a Tele man!? Has anyone "upgraded" from a Mex Tele to an American Tele and can testify to a huge difference in quality, sound and playability to justify the extra cost? If so, please let me know your thoughts, as I am contemplating buying an American Standard Tele and would like to hear some opinions from anyone who's started off with the Mex and then bought an America.

Cheers,

Brian Oblivion :)

I own a MIM tele that I got in 01. I traded a shotgun for it at a local gun and guitar store. What a great combo...guns and guitars. I absoultly love it. I replaced the original bridge with a vintage style 3 saddle job, and it looks and plays just like a vintage Tele. I would like to buy a new American Standard, but want to hear feedback. I'm also looking at Highway One Teles. Good Luck and I'll be watching the forum. Ed

You didn't say what type of Mexican Tele you had. In the 90's some were still made of US componets, only assy. in Mexico...anotherwords, they were US teles, but half the price....sad isn't it?

You play what feels good in your hand and sounds good to your ear brother.....

Every guitar sounds different, even off the same line....and depending on whos hand it's in: Like Mr. Case says.."It aint the car, it's the driver!"

Thanks for the info! I checked the serial # here on the Fender dating page for MIM. My Tele's # is MZI 139415. It says made in Mexico but the dating info said MX plus 5 digits. There are 6 following mine. Maybe I have a real odd ball. I don't care, it still plays really great!!! Ed

I'm sorry!!! It's MZI 139415! Not MX. The X is next to the Z on the keyboard. Ed

Maybe you are just a Tele guy. Nothing wrong with that.
